so happy memorial day everyone? do you wish people happy memorial day? I mean it's a holiday everyone looks forward to but it's not necessarily happy. well i mean i'm happy i don't have to be at work so i'm having a happy memorial day but the day it's self if kinda sad. with all the war and dying for ones country and all......... yeah,
Anyway last week big john diehl (johns flickr) was in town for a visit and we indeed made the best of it.... on friday we went to Atlantic City "where hope goes to die" i guess you could say everything you've head about Atlantic city is true... It's dirty slimy and a bit scary. i don't really like to gamble but john is like a young Kenny Rogers who can't sing.... He tried to explain Craps to me but some reason my tiny paul brain just could handle it. long story short we both came out ahead by the time we boarded the bus full of toothless rubes back to nyc. i was up $50 (black jack) and john was up $250 (which he won just moments before we got on the buss)...
Saturday was the Yankee's game I posted some pics in frames. the new stadium is ridiculous. i know the pictures don't do it justice but the new jumbotron is like a city block in size. It was a good game. it went to extra innings with toolrod I mean Arod hitting a homerun to win the game....
Lastly and most exciting NEW DPORT7 Tshirts and bags!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Inspired by our iphone icon the shirts and bags are hot off the press and ready for you to love them.... PAUL!!!!! How do I get one?? Well maybe if i see you i'll have one for you.... other than that send an email i guess. Can't make any promises supplys are low....... I'm excited

so did you see this? just when you thought you knew the biggest bastard in town good old Billy Bob Thornton comes out of nowhere and takes the taco. I posted this interview Billy Bob did on a Canadian radio station. He just gets mad and refuses to answer questions. To really get into it fast forward to the 6 and a half minute mark. It's so akward and revolting it's hard not to watch. If for some reason you were or are a Billy Bob fan, well I hope this changes your mind.

In other news aaron and alison came to visit last weekend and we all had a great time. One great thing about living in New York for 5 years is that after the second year most of the people that are going visit have. So by year 3 it's gravy. when people come to visit there isn't any lets go to the top of the rock or visit the moma. It's just purely hang out time. this i like. I'll try and post a few pictuers this weekend. I know alison posted some pics on the facebooks but being that i continue to boycott i haven't been able to see said pictures....
In just a week kate and i head to Savannah and we could not be more excited. I can't tell you how bad i need to get out of the city. seeing the old savannah sights is really going to lift the old spirits.

update time!!!! So over the past week the chair saga has continued....In the last post I was taking off the old shock absorbers at the apt. I then took the shells to work where there is a small workshop to do the sanding and the gluing for the new shock attachment. As always doing anything in the city with no car and public trans is a challenge. Lucky for me Monday was a holiday so the trains were mostly empty. I was able to carry all three chair shells in with me on my way to work (my office doesn't observe MLK day). As planed I went in to work early and stayed late all week to complete all the sanding and gluing and now today Friday I'm able to take them home. I posted a few shots of the process for you. Why? Because I know you care deeply.
Hey Paul, how's the ShittyKitty thing working out? I'm glad you asked. buttFUZZ is seeming to adjust to it pretty smoothly. We removed the first ring and she didn't freak out and still jumps up on the toilet to use it. I don't have any pictures but I did walk in on her one time and saw she was sitting with all four paws on the seat while she was taking care of her business. So that's a good sign.
Stay tuned I'll post some pics of the finished chairs this weekend. I'm sure your dieing see the finished project.

In the spirit of documentation I'd like to tell you about a little project I'm working on. As many of you might remember from my first post ever (scroll to bottom) I "found" 3 Eames school shell chairs in my short stint in Cincinnati at the hospital's smoking hut. Because they were owned by a institution they have what's called the school legs on them and over the years those legs have rusted and fallen apart. For years now I've vowed to buy new legs and repair these chairs. After asking around I found a place online in California called modernica that sells the new more stylish legs I was after. As it turns out the Eiffel legs don't have the same hole pattern that the school legs do. After some sadness i found a website that shows how to remove the old hole pattern and set up a new one, by replacing the shock absorbers. The next challenge was finding the shock absobers. Leave it to ebay to have what you need. I just recived the parts yesterday and with any luck in the next week or so I'll have the rest of the process to show you. the picture below is the chair disasembled with two of the shock absorbers pried off.

Hold on to your shorts we are pushing the me and paul show again. I added a podcast page to the site to help you more easily access the show. you may be asking yourself "shit are they still trying to do that show? are they still not really talking about anything? did jon ever get that "don't jar" and if so is it full yet?" To answer simply yes!. The show is getitng better slowly and there are plenty to choose from. What's nice is you can come here to dport7 and listen from computer in the world or you can click below and subscribe through itunes and pick up the new episodes as we do them. either way we hope you listen and respond to our plea's to call in and be part of the show. we are also working hard to improve the sound quality. I've forced jon to do some recording research and with any luck the next episode will have a much better volume.

So last thursday night I went to the TODA summer party. It was great to see everyone as always and this time I got a chance to talk to my old boss mark. Turns out that very they had received the first shipment of the chair i had worked on most of the time i was there. this was for some reason extremely exciting for me. Mark said they are being sold at DDC.I haven't seen them on the website but I'm ganna try and stop in soon and pick one up. Also while I was there I saw the OXO shower caddy I was working on when I left in august 2005. It looks just like it did when I left it, and its in stores now.
Sorry it been sooo long since a post. I'm really having a hard time finding a moment to do this. With SSP08 coming up the entire dport7 office is a flutter with things to do. Don't forget July 19th watch your inbox for the official invite soon.

Here I am at LGA the dirtiest airport in the nation waiting to take off to Dayton Ohio then to Cincinnati to see big john diehl graduate for what looks to be the last time from med school. Over the last 8 or so years john has graduated like 24 times. First from UC med school then residency then from god knows what and so on. I don't think I've been present for more then one of these occasions. For this the very last one I'm taking this friday off and getting on a USair flight to my home state and most hated city Cincinnati. Oh looks like they've started the preboarding I guess I better wrap this up. I brought my video camera and feel determined to make a doc. not only for john but for you the now generally board dport7 reader. Don't give up.

dport7 faithful you would have been proud.... yes proud indeed. last monday at my weekly kickball match i preformed a feet that made the girls cry, children sing, and grown men to light a cigar in contemplation. it's been my dream probably my whole life to make a heroic catch in a outfield of some kind. this particular monday that dream was more haunting then ever. i told my good friend (hands) hanley about this and on the next kick she pulled down a catch that by some estimations was solid indeed. this only made my dream seem more mocking...... As i came out on the field the next inning i knew it was time to take life by the 'balls" and make this dream a reality. As i waited for a kick to come my way my heart pounded with anticipation my hands began to sweat and my mind became clear.... THIS IS IT. The reverberating sound of a freshly kicked ball rang out into the late evening air. All my senses became sharp as my brain raced to judge the point at which it would hit the ground. Without concern for my own safety i dove and caught the red rubber sphere just a half second before it touched down. with the speed of my leap i rolled and popped back up to get the ball to the safety of the infield. I know this picture may not do the catch justice but the look on the face of my teammate behind me says it all.
in other news ian posted some great new pictures check them out.

well spring is finally really here. I've hung up my black winter coat and dawned my orange wind breaker. i'm feeling unusually exhausted lately, so I'm ganna keep this one short. Saturday was beautiful so Kate (she updated)and i went to the park along with the rest of manhattan. I posted a couple of pictures in fames. turns out the first chance people get, the shirts come off in public. girls running around in bathing suits and hair dudes trying to look cool laying in the park getting much needed sun on any part of their bodiers. Poor Kate got flashed by some guy trying to change his shorts while wearing a towel. it was fine though it made her laugh hysterically. I got a little color on my face and unfortunately kate caught a cold.
Anyway sunday went to work for awhile and then went to union square and took some pictures. I got to use this slr when ever possible. any way check out ian's flickr. watch suddenly struttin for updates during a road trip this week. Oh i joined a kickball team and the games start monday so wish me luck. I'm out of shape like jim belushi
I took the skateboard pick a union square....... sorry no tricks!

happy Easter everyone! Just a quick update. my parents are in town for the Easter holiday and staying till tuesday. yesterday on a shockingly nice and sunny easter sunday kate my folks and i all went to the cloisters in upper manhattan. it's part of the met and as you might have guessed is full of mid evil art. it's easy to make a day out of the event and to say the least it was exhausting. Other than that it's just been family time.
in other news tony ritz is back so start checking the site again!!!!!
::::::::update::::::: i posted some pictures i took at the cloisters in frames.

can i just say I AM APPALLED at the new american gladiators not only did they pretty much just go to the back lots and dust off the old set but the new eliminator (the obstacle course event) is crap. i'm not sure how i feel about hulk hogan hosting this travesty along with some women that seems completely out of nowhere like they picked her out of the audience 10 minutes before the show started. now, lets talk about the gladiators. the new set of lady gladiators are for a lack of a better word, dudes. especially the one named fury. trust me watch it fury is totally a dude.

anyway went go carting on saturday pretty fun. turns out i wasn't born to be a professional driver. the other guys are all about their track times. i'd rather just try to flip the cart and see if i could catch it on fire. guess i'm just not a competitor.

lastly kate and i went to kidrobot and i picked up a munny. i don't know why they're just kind of funny. these are do it yourself munnys so you can take some markers to them and do your own design. I have a bit of a problem when it comes to this. the munny looks so good all in white that i have a hard time dealing with the fact that i might screw it up if i take some markers to it. anyway i still need to name it so if you have any ideas let me know. hey check out the little accessories that come with the munny. he has a cape.

first thing first this has been a week of big news. (lets start with the stupid news first). as i mentioned in my last post chipolte opened this week around the corner from my office. it's the kind of thing that kinda makes or breaks your work day. it resides on 8th ave between 51 and 52 street on the east side sidewalk. i have visited three times sine the grand opening. people say you can't recreate magic you'd once lost. in this case those people are wrong. every bit of the three burritos i had this week were magical perfection. now i know what your thinking. "paul you know those burritos have the same calorie content as a big mac don't you?" "you better watch out, your ganna get a big old gut just like 1980's chicago bears defensive tackle superstar the refrigerator". Yes i'm aware of that so relax. I'm going to start exercising or something but the burritos aren't stopping. so get off my back......

in other more relevant news. (you really should have just skipped to this section). my long time girlfriend and resident cool person Kate, was offered a rather prestigious position (for her age) at Ralph Lauren this week. after too weeks of an intense test project and late night agonizing over details and concepts, she has reigned supreme with a great offer. of course here at dport7 the entire staff wishes kate all the best and are confident she'll become a super star in the ralph lauren fold. in choosing a picture for this section of the post Kate recommended this one. apparently as you walk into the RL offices this picture of Ralph is huge and front and center. so put your tunnel vision and pretend your there.

so bear mountain! this weekend ian's parent's were in town and suggested going on a boat ride up to octoberfest at bear mountain. i forget that there is countryside just out side of this urban jungle. Living here working in mass produced products you start to believe the planet is dieing and global warming has brought us to our knees. All that may be happening but up state you'd never know. the land is healthy with trees just about to turn fall colors and paint the sky with a design only mother nature could create. We took a boat up the Hudson river surrounded by the palisades and rolling hills that seem to intersect each other in that distance. The entire trip that narrated by a older man with a velvet voice named john. he seemed to be straight out of the 50's with cool slicked back silver hair, telling us stories of NYC all the way up the island. After a 3 hour trip we arrived at bear mountain and only had 2 hours to make our way up to octoberfest and have a braut and beers. we did just that and listened to the band and that in what seemed like no time at all made our way back to the boat. The 3 hour ride back got cold but the trip over all was sooo great. i cant express to you how great it is to get out of this city from time to time.

in other news i'm going to chicago this weekend to visit out friends from suddenlystruttin.blogspot.com. it's a clash of the blogworld titans but in a fun way. the dport7 staff has just finished the physical therapy from last years visit so it seems only fitting to head back for another visit.

what is it about tattoo's that make them seem soo cool. of course we all know most of them all surrounded with a constant sense of regret. like the girl that got "miami spring break 2004" inked just above the crack of her ass, and now is the office joke. while other tattoos are a relevant life long tribute to someone or a constant reminded of something profound. why all the tattoo talk? well it seems every time i visit Kate we end up watching this reality show on TLC called LA ink. It's pretty simple it's just a tattoo pallor run by this attractive tv ready young women. For some reason the idea for this show is TV gold. the people that come into the shop either have a unbearable story of strife that can only be commemorated with a tattoo, or that polar opposite. Like the guy that came in a and wanted a tattoo portrait if his 5 year old cat ( which turned out surprisingly well). Either way it always leads kate and i down the road of talking about what tattoos wee would get. we both agree it have to be something that is hidden and not all together to complicated or trendy. although kate always mentions how her dream has been to get a portrait of Larry Hagman TV's JR from Dallas (which i always think is weird, but cool). I thought it would be best for me to stay close to my dport7 roots and get the famous dport7 burst on my hand. very small but classy. of course if that doesn't work out I could always get that portrait of Judith Light on my back.

So i know i've been neglecting you dport7 but unfortunately life sometimes gets in the way of this blog. as some of you might now I'm trying to stay away from writing boring "here's my weekend" updates. So i'll keep this short. friday went to BeerFest with tyson ryan ian a josi. Stayed out way to late met up with kate and sam danced the night away. Saturday couldn't move until 5pm went to see corn mo at 11:30 with ian and elinor. Saturday was a delight going to the gocart track with Ian and Ian. I left out a lot of stuff but oh well. i think i have a few pictures from the BeerFest i'll try and post them tonight. oh so this picture is from gocarting yesterday, sorry it's sooo poopie but the iphone takes crap pictures indoors.

so what's been happening? Well lots of work, a wedding, and more work. My cousin Krissy got married I'm Columbus Ohio last Saturday and I was in attendance. Big dr. John Diehl was there, and as always he was a great time and might have been the glue that held the wedding together. The good news was the reception had booze so john and I danced the night away because no one else would dance and I get board. On that note a wedding reception is infact a party so of your at one do me a favor and have fun. Oh what's that? you don't want to look like a jackass infront of your parents and family. Well do me a favor and suck it up and be fun it won't kill you.
other than that this weekend cowboy kate is moving. She's going about two blocks down the street in queens to a swank new 1bedroom pad. I'm helping with the move Saturday, and its going to ne the most organized move ever. Kate has her entire place boxed up and ready to go. The only thing out of her control is that one of her orignal roomates left what seems to be 3000 hanging anchors in the wall. The cool part is she wont come over and pull them out and spackel. The part that makes it extra cool is that when she moved out she stole kate's tool box so even if she wanted to do it herself she couldn't. In a word, WOW.
Lastly ian and I went out with the G2 kids for Cookies birthday. So happy birthday Cookie. It was great to see everybody.

Oh i almost forgot. NEW pictures in frames!!!! All the way from kate's birthday to nantucket to last weekends wedding. Sorry for the delay but enjoy. Don't forget to click on them and enjoy the magic.

PS.... For those of you wondering why I don't blog more often with the phone I'm sitting on the C train tapping this in right now. If it reads a little weird that's why.

What to blog about? The heat? Last weekend? The presidential debates? bridges colapsing? movies? does any of it really seem that interesting? I don't know about you but blogging once a week about going to the bar or the occasional movie just seems too tired for words. Does this mean dport7 has seen the end of the road? Maybe, but maybe it just means the topics need to be more diverse. Yeah let's try that for a while and if it works we'll keep this thing going. if not? Well I'll stop paying for server space I guess. I don't about you but I've stopped reading this tripe.
If you get the chance pick up the new wilco album its a bit slow but i've been listening to it a lot and its pleasant to say the least. I've also really been enjoying the new spoon album. I know your not all spoon fans but its packed with feel good songs that keep you going all day. Although if you hate spoon this album isn't going to change your mind.

this week has been intense!!!! for real. besides having a big project going on at work all week i still found time to do some extra curricular activities. tuesday night kate and i were invited by nicole to the gallery party were she works. it was what you might expect from a gallery party epicly cool with a crowed that only comes to that kind of event. a few of the artists were at the party and nicole showed us around the gallery and kindly explained all the art. this shot is the space and more in frames .... check it out totally kinda art cool.

on thursday night i went to the new website launch party at TODA (check it out). for those of you keeping score today was my first job here in new york. as you know i keep intouch with some of the staff and it was great to see everyone again and be back up in the office. as far as the web site goes i think it's great it' much more information rich and a bit more immersive than the last site. i was excited.

thursday also brought the fond fair-well to the Anderson's Phil and Leena. kate and i met them for a good bye drink at the rose and stone in columbus circle. it's sad to see friends leave the city but kate and i tried hard to convince them that Burlington vermont is going to be fun relaxing and a quality of life few can afford in this town. dport7 wishes you luck and we look forward to coming up to see you soon.

friday was Eban's birthday so we were out and about. the kid made it to 24. way to go pal

lastly i sent all day saturday cleaning my apartment; a move out quality clean. it took all day but this place is a nice now and it really needed it. by the way tyson got an iPhone and i can't sleep. yeah no your right that's sad.

ever since i got back from mexico i feel like the world is spinning. i know it's only been a week but it seems as if i haven't stopped to take a breath in five days. from being unable to return phone calls to not being able to get my last check from the old job there's just too much to do and not enough paul to do it. it may be the new job that has me feeling like this (flustered). it's going well so far, so i can't complain.
anyway on wednesday i went out with the G2 friends because it was ray's last day. he's going to work for dyson (vacuums). it was great to see everyone again even though it's only been two weeks. last night a old friend of dport7 came to grace us with a visit. the jew (jon schulman) took the bus down from philly just for the evening. kate nicole jon and i met a beauty bar had a drink then got dinner at this great pizza place you must try called Luzzo's. after dinner a quick stop at heather's to visit the only bartender in town i'm friends with. then per kate's request to go dancing back to beauty bar to dance the rest of the night away!!! today i have to take it easy.... i feel like i might be getting sick and i can't afford to be sick my second week at a new job. anyway i put up some shots from G2 and jon's visit so check it out in frames!!!

so i know most of you are experiencing this and to honest it's really getting me down. this return to winter is not only uncalled for but just poor taste. today i'm braving the crap weather to join phill anderson for a yankees game. he got free tickets and i have a hard time saying know to anyone. why? because i'm easy. if you see old man winter tell him i'm mad as hell and he needs to get out of the way because it's spring time and i'm way too pasty white.

Ok everyone it's time for the spring time dport7 super charge. First off THE STICKERS ARE HERE!!!!!! as you can see I'm excited. i've got 1500 so i'm ready to hand them out to you the dport7 faithfull to spread them around your respective cities. i was thinking they should be in every dive bar bathroom in the nation, but i'll leave it up to you. so send me an email with your address and i'll get some out to you.

Second and this is HUGE i have added a crazy cool magic like feature to the frames section. i decided not to bring back the slide show this year because it was just too slow. so instead i installed this thing called lightbox. I could explain it but check it out for yourself. The main thing is that for it to work you have to let the entire page load before you click on an image. for the nerds out there the entire effect is done without flash it's 3 external pages of javascript. CRAZY!!!. I really like it and i think it finally makes the frames page works the way it should. please enjoi and let me know what you think.

Last (and this was awesome) on thusrday i went to see my new favorite singer/songwritter Corn Mo. this guy is uber tallented and if you get a chance to see him take it he puts on a great rock show and if his band is with him (.357 lover) it's even better and more intense rock. nicole and ian joined me at the knitting factory for the show and even though they wern't as crazy onto it as i was i think we all agreed it was indeed worth the time and money. i kinda nerded out and got my picture with corn mo. nicole was trying to be cool about it and talk for a while and then take the shot but all i could think of was blogging with a picture of me and corn mo. i'm a tool

so it dawned on me the other day that the pictures for 2007 have been lacking. i had thought that putting up the same old shots of me with all the people you've been seeing for the past 2 years had gotten old. the sad part about this is that these pictures are the only kind of pictures i take. I'm bad at arty type shots and to be honest i don't do any that interesting that would encompass cool photos. i spent saturday out with the swanson brothers and then in brooklyn with the toda crew. it was a good day of party and the pictures followed. for now i put them in the frames section. per my laziness i haven't started a new "slideshow" for 2007. if no one cares i might just let it go for this year, or maybe not. anyway check it out I had a polar bear mask.

and now.... a pointless blog

first off if your a frequent reader i again feel as if i'm right on the edge.

also why is that at the grocery store they only sell pretzel sticks by the cubic ton! i have to carry this stuff home on the train you think we could offer a decent size bag. but no, not pretzel stick, it's like in a feed size bag.

it's occurred to me that working in a corporate office is sadly a lot like high school. I could list off a bunch of reasons why, but may favorite is the most despicable. Only the guys will know this one but it's amazing. so as you might know from your HS days the dirty guys in school tend to pick their nose and place it on the wall above the urinal.... to my astonishment on my floor at work (where the bathroom is shared with several other offices on the floor) the same practices are being used. i was a little surprised and the sight of it made me laugh.... then i just thought man that's sad.

so good news everyone I can finally visit all the international members of dport7.I got my passport. we are very popular in other countries we're the jerry lewis and david hasselhoff of the internet. i'm a god in moscow.

here's a small update just to keep you fix going.

last night i was out to dinner with some friends on the lower westside. (which by the way I think is one of the nicer areas of the city) we were at this restaurant called bar pitti we walked in and turned the corner and sitting at the table next to use was sara jessica parker.(i know the dport7 faithful loves the famous people) to be honest she look like you would expect meaning i don't think she's one of those - look one way on tv and look totally different in real life. It looked like she was eating/having a meeting with a interior decorator because the had swatches out on the table. now i know what your think "paul why no picture for dport7". well the thing is here in nyc is that there is a real public pressure to leave famous people alone when you see them. its kind of a unwritten rule you have to follow.... trust me if we had just been on a quite street i would have gone for the photo-op. either way no matter how jaded or cool you think you are it's always fun to see stars of the caliber.....

so I've cataloged the frames from 2006 and started 2007. just in case you were concerned that i lose interest in doing the site. anyway the first shots from 07 are from my visit to the new york natural history museum . this might sound like a little of the homogay but i heard that they had a exhibit on butterflies where you are in a conservatory and exotic butterflies fly around you and possibly land on your nose. so i called up the swanson brothers and being that they too love butterflies we all headed over there. i thought it might be some funny video of the site ,but sadly the exhibit was sold out so we just had to walk around the rest of the museum. as some of you might know i tend to get board fast and just kinda fly through the first floor of the museum and then take monkey pictures and head for the bar. oh well maybe next time....

tuesday is the mac world keynote get hype

So yesterday was a lovely day at Yankee Stadium. We saw the Yankees come back in the bottom of the 9th to beat that Angels. to win 8 to 7. When at a ball game you never know who you'll be sitting next to. Kate and i had the pleasure of sitting next to some hard core never been out of NY Yankee fans. This means that every woman that walks past receives a halla of "Show'em" I think we all know what that means. They also hated the Red Soxs, and anyone stupid enough to wear Red Sox's gear to the park. They did take particular delight informing the entire park that Boston is in-fact GAY. I ♥ NY.
