November 29, 2010

well it’s that time of year again so let me be the first to wish you a very happy holiday season from the entire dport7 staff. I thought since last year the site fell into such disrepair I’d go a bit above and beyond this year. I wanted to also post a night time shot of Buster and his sled. I thought it was kinda cool. Click on it for a larger image. Hope you enjoy the festive nature of the site.

Faithful hello! I hope you had a great ThanksGiving! We most certainly did. We celebrated her is beautiful Brooklyn NY with good friends of the site BVA and co. With a surprise special guest JENN Norwood. If you haven’t had the chance to celebrate a Holiday with Jenn than you have never experienced the Holidays. We really just had too much fun. As for the food, well it was off the chain! BVA made 2 yes 2 turkeys! Kate out did herself again making yet another 2 pie and the most delightful Lactard mashed potatoes of all time. I took along my new lens and camera to show you all the goodness. I also managed to catch the essence in a super short little video. Jenn ( I’m speaking only to you now)… buttFUZZ and brooklyn miss you already!

On Monday night Kate fulfilled a long time dream of seeing one of her favorite Musicians Aimee Mann in concert. I was along for support as I haven’t listened to much Aimee Mann and thus not a qualified fan. The show was at a smaller venue in Williamsburg Brooklyn called the Music Hall of Williamsburg. It was completely sold out as Aimee seems to have a rather loyal fan base. I recognized a couple of songs, one of which is in the second half of the posted video below. One thing that was very impressive was how well Aimee sang. She sounded as if they were playing a recording under her. I can’t say I didn’t enjoy the show it’s always great to see someone that is so talented even if it isn’t your not a huge fan. The video below is more for the dport7 record than anything else so if your not already a fan I’ll warn you it’s a bit long.

This video has been floating around the internet the last couple of days and I finally watched and was completely amazed. In the city of Tarragona, Spain, castellers gather every two years to see who can build the highest, most intricate human castles. This uniquely Catalan tradition requires astonishing strength, finesse, and balance. Not to mention courage. I think this proves once and for all that the Spanish are crazy and awesome. It’s hard not to recoil in fright when the towers collapse. Notice that the top of the tower tends to be what looks like 9 year old girls (insane).
Not to mention the video is beautifully shot. It’s worth clicking on the HD button on the right hand corner and going to vimeo to see it in HD.

So I know it’s been a very long time since we’ve had a Fait 500 update. I’ll tell you what, I just plain ran out of steam once I got to doing the interior. The body and the bumpers and the lights were fun but all the trim and interior is just a killer. It’s surprisingly kinda tricky to do all the little piping and is to say the least monotonous. I thought I’d show you the stage where the Fiat 500 is likely to stay. I may someday put on the canvas top just because I think it may clear up a few issues I have with the roof of the car. If you’d like a higher rez click on the photo. The Fiat will be featured prominently on the site from now on, I just doubt it will see much more modeling attention.

Hey so I thought I’d post some pic’s from my 30th Birthday weekend. Lots of pictures of Jon, Aaron and Alison. Sadly I didn’t take the camera to the bar for the Saturday meet up. We had a great time it was sooo great to see everyone. All the folk I never get to see came out and it was great. Thanks to everyone that showed up let’s do this more often not just on birthdays.
btw, all the pictures are taken with the new lens I posted about a few days ago.. Love that thing.

I have to admit that although I don’t often watch the Jimmy Fallon Show it’s starting to win me over with clips like these. I found this and gawker and had to make sure you, the dport7 faithful experienced this. This is a dport7 favorite Jeff Goldblum playing the piano and singing the first part of Biz Markie’s “you got what i need”. This was amazing and made me day hands down. Please enjoy!
As a side note watch for when the camera shoots the crowd. You’ll notice that the people in the front row seem to not only be unenthusied but also appear not to care. I feel as if there should be a fine for not appreciating and experience such as this. I don’t care if your from another country here in NYC on vacation it is unacceptable not to be loosing your mind over being present at such an event. Needed to be said.

So today I’m 30 years old. I’ve titled this birthday “30: never even saw it coming”. I thought I’d be more upset about it than I am. I guess that’s a good sign. I’m not embracing it, let’s be clear! I do however feel comfortable with it. I want to believe its kind of an end of an era, but let’s be honest it’s really not. It’s just another year older. In many ways if someone was to give me the opportunity to go back and relive my 20’s I would certainly think twice about it. Although the 20’s were fun they were equally difficult. Moving to Cincinnati, then California (for a hell internship), then New York to start a non-paid internship and work at the Apple Store (that part was fun though).. Then moved on to work several other ID jobs, got married (biggie, love you Kate), got a cat (not really a big deal but thought I’d mention it). Many other thing I haven’t mentioned and have forgotten. I guess I should title this birthday “30: take it easy huh”.
Anyway that was too much info. If you’d like to join us for a birthday drink come on out to the edge on 95 E 3rd on the LES on Saturday. We will have special guests Aaron and Alison Shurts in from Seattle…. See you there!

My parents came to visit this week to coincide with my birthday. Although they left this morning last night we went to dinner and they gave me my gift. To my complete surprise it was exactly what I asked for a 85mm f/1.8 canon lens. This thing is incredible it takes amazing depth of field shots. Really makes the subject of the photo pop! I thought I’d post a few shots so you could see check them out. Big Thanks to mom and dad for such a great gift and great visit.
Sorry for all the buttFUZZ shots she’s my only subject as Kate refuses to be photographed. I’ll leave the house someday and take some more shots.

update: I put a little video from our visit together. We had a little interview after watching the marathon waiting for a table.

Hello everybody! I’m not sure if I mentioned it or not but a few weeks ago I picked up the Canon 550D Rebel Ti2 SLR. I needed an upgrade from my old Nikon and the idea of shooting video with a nice lens was pretty exciting. I haven’t had a chance to really try it out until yesterday. I put together a bit of footage I took of ButtFUZZ and I have to admit I’m pretty happy with the results. The camera shoots at 30fps full 1080p video so the quality is impressive. I just wish there was a cheap unobtrusive rig I could find to help me shoot a bit smoother. Anyway check it out!
Just a tip if the video is running choppy on your machine make sure the HD is switched off. It takes a lot of bandwidth to run and a pretty fast computer.
it’s not you it’s them… your too hard on yourself.
