Hello all you new yorkers…… Can you believe that this used to be Coney Island in 1905? All right I didn’t grow up in the city so maybe I don’t understand the true magic of Coney Island. As far as I can tell it’s the place God forgot. I mean have you been there in the last 20 years. I’ve been out there a few times and I always swear I’ll never return. The beach is full of mutants (i’m being kind) and people that don’t know any better (tourist and such). When I stumble upon pictures like this for some reason it fills me with anger. Why did I miss this? Why couldn’t this survive instead of that stupid roller coster. Granted I’m sure this wasn’t built to last in the first place but it’s still seems unbelievable that it’s was in the crap dungeon that is Coney Island today. When, why, and how did everything become so unbelievably run down in the city. The airports are like a 3 world counties bus station. The subways look as if they were built on a dare. For being the richest most powerful city in the world (i have no facts to back that up) it’s really all fallen apart. Anyway I found this pic on a great site I’m sure you’ll enjoy called Shorpy lots of early century pics really fascinating and hi rez.

hey paul I thought now that you had the netMacNbook the new posts were going to show up early and often? Let me make my excuse. So this past week saw me spending most of my time in Cincinnati Ohio for work. Sadly that brought no time or energy to run. Although I did get to see big john diehl which was great. The plane ride back infected me with a soul crushing body distroying cold. It hit really hard on friday and I’ve been unable to move since. This has got me down because last weekend I really hit my stride. Lot’s of running coupled with a fair amount of progress. I feel now as if I have lost as week and have been set back. My body is quick to tighten back up into it’s old lazy ways. Today (sunday) i’m just well enough to write this post but not much else. Stay tuned with any luck I can log a few more miles next weekend.

Now, Jew has asked that i update on the netMacNbook. Well, let me say it’s still working perfect. I’ve since done a few video ichat’s to check out the camera. They went great. My parents came to town and wanted one of their own so I have ordered and received another. The only thing is the new one we got has a dead pixel so it’s on hold until I can find out if dell will replace it. I have to be honest I do tend to worry about doing these for other people. Although the process is simple I worry that if there is a problem it may be a bit more work to solve than a normal computer glitch. Either way I’m still completely happy with mine, well the track pad is still crap but what can you do.

so the pumas were a bust right? so I went over to nike town on 5th ave and got myself a pair of those nike plus shoes. Why? Well, they have a little bean type thing that you put into the sole of the shoe and then plug another little device into the bottom port of an ipod nano. This allows you to record everything about your run. Time, distance, calories burned, pace, ect. It is great! The only thing confusing me is how after running 4 miles it says I only took 61 steps. I think I need to calibrate it or something. Now we can all follow along with my running progress. I’ll start posting links as soon as I get the nike site figured out. It’s a bit of information over load so give me some time. Get excited. I tried to get the least ugly running shoes I could. I wouldn’t say I failed, but I wouldn’t say I succeeded either.

My friends it’s all about enjoying the little things. We found this little coke six pack of bottles in the grocery store tonight and got both coke and diet coke. If you love a coke and a smile it’s over here at our place. best part about these little wonders, they aren’t 20 oz. That means when you finnish you still feel as if you like the taste of coke.

run update: 3.25 miles….. still not fast, but keeping the distance up.

Hey everyone I hope you’re liking the new site! I know it’s a bit of a change but like I said I’m working on bring it back to the level of the old site.

Anyway I’ve mad a bit of progress on the fiat 500 since my last update. I did a lot of the work on the backend. Most of the vents are in and I redid the tire tread. The taillights took way too much effort for reasons I can’t explain. The detail spine on the hood helps the front end look a bit more complete along with all the bumper work both front and back.. The next big thing that needs done is the doors and windows. It seems to really be holding back these renderings. I added some materials in to help show some of the detail I’ve but into the headlights and blinkers. Anyway I hope I can keep it up this has turened in to a much bigger project than I expected.

Let us not forget the Triathlon is coming right up (june 27). So this week I decided that running in my puma street shoes just isn’t proper. So I went and ordered these from zappos, it’s hard to find running shoes that aren’t heinously ugly. Why is that? Do people that run respond to 9 colors jumbled together in what looks like a box of crayons exploded in the box the shoes were shipped in. Anyway, ran 3.48 miles this morning and continuing my training efforts.

Oh and just fyi Kate and I HATE cablevision!!!! they over charge for there crap service and get channels pulled all the time

I know things look a bit different but don’t buck progress my friends. Let me explain. A few months ago blogger (the service i use to run the blog here on dport7) decided it would cut off FTP support. For purely irrational reasons this infuriated me. So I decided that after 6 years it was time for us to part ways. As they say breaking up is hard to do and this is no acceptation. After much researching i figured out how to at least migrate the posts to out new home here on WordPress. I’m trying to figure out what to do with the comments but to be honest with you is doesn’t look good.
In short this is going to take a while as i figure out how the eff this Word Press system works. The major issue is that all the pages are coded in PHP which I have no knowledge of and tend to liken to a tangles ball of code string.
If you prefer the old dport7 you can still go and take a look at it all 6 years with the original comments at http://dport7.com/blog.html all new post will come here to just dport7.com. Oh! have no fear we’ll get the design of the site up to standard after the technical issues get resolved.
THANKS!!!

this is going to sound crazy but I just signed up for a triathlon. No, I didn’t come up with this one on my own. Kate and Megan decided a few months ago to do this and encouraged me to get my own team together. Yes, team, it’s a relay triathlon so I only have to do one part. It’s also whats called a sprint triathlon so my portion the running is only a 5K. I’m pretty sure I can handle that. Although let’s be honest I’m probably in the worst shape of my life. The last 4 year I’ve watched my metabolism start it’s slow grind to a more a mature halt. The 9 to 12 hours a day i spend behind a computer hasn’t slowed this process. Neither has my long time love affair with burritos. The real stinger in this story is the fact the the other two guys in the relay are effing pro’s. The bike portion is being completed by my coworker Graham who commonly goes on a nightly ride of 30m miles around central park. The swimmer on the team is a friend of Megan’s that swims 2 miles a day. My only credentials are hacking dell netbooks and having the 3D modeling know how to build a Fiat 500. Not helping.
What’s our team name you ask? We will be called The Japanese Danger Duo…. (Duo stands for danger). Yes I understand that there are three of us. No, none of the members on the team are japanese. hence the humor…. trust me on this one. I’ve been asking Kate what their team name is so far no official name has been chosen. What’s their line up? Well Megan will take the first (and what I think may be the most difficult leg) the swim. Kate will be doing the bike portion, and Sarah will most likely lap me on the run.
This weekend the real training begins if it’s not raining, and maybe even if it is. I will test myself on a 5K lap around prospect park. I figure if I use this as my bench mark training ground even and outwardly skinny yet increasingly flabby guy like myself can at least have a good showing at this my first triathlon. I’ve posted a picture of roughly what I may look like on the big day.

so I think this might have gone too far. I’v been all about this netMacNbook mainly because it’s flawless. i mean check this out the SD card reader on the side even works. Now, I’ve only had it for 2 days but I think that buttFUZZ and Kate are wondering what has happened to me. This morning when I opened it up before heading to work I found this little note. Kate’s says it’s not from her and that’s not buttFUZZ’s hand writing. The netbook in-fact loves me? Yes, I think so. Alright I’ll say it, it’s not too soon….. I love you to netMacNbook.

Hello everybody! today I’m typing to you from my new dellnetmacbook. That’s right against all my better instincts i went and did it. Some of you may remember a few months ago i posted a link to gizmodo that showed you how to take a Dell 10v netbook and install Mac OSX on it. Essentially turing it into a mini macbook. Believe it or not it works great. Before I Hakintoshed it i turned it on running Windows XP and it was slow and unresponsive. After installing OSX it’s like a whole new machine. It runs fast and without problem. Even the little webcam works for ichat, Crazy. So lets break it down cheapest MacBook $999, Dell 10V $300, that’s right I win. The idea behind this little guy is to get the blog going again.. let’s hope it works for me.

You’ve probably been wondering what happened to me after my last post back in january. Well I’ve taken on alittle hobby project. When Kate and i were in italy we saw these cool little old Fiat 500 cars everywhere we went. so I thought I’d take a shot at trying to 3D model one. with most of my experiance being in plastic bottles a car is a whole new challenge. Anyway I’ll post my progress as i go. The test render here is from about a week ago and alot of work on the back of the car has been done since.

Lastly, this weekend we went out and finally got Kate a proper keyboard. If you hadn’t heard Kate has played piano pretty much her entire life and always used a real and beautiful piano. Keyboards have really come along way. This one sounds great and the keys are weighted and it really feels as if your playing a real piano. next time your by try to get her to play for you she’s busy shaking the rust off now.
